Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) allows you to make phone calls using the internet instead of traditional phone lines. Your voice is converted to digital data and transmitted over the internet, then converted back to audio at the receiving end. This technology enables significant cost savings and advanced features not possible with traditional phone systems.

You can use UniTotal with any SIP-compatible device including IP phones, softphones (software on your computer or smartphone), ATAs (Analog Telephone Adapters) for traditional phones, or through our web interface. Most modern VoIP equipment will work seamlessly with our service.

No, we offer month-to-month service with no contracts or long-term commitments. You can cancel at any time without penalty. We believe in earning your business every month rather than locking you into contracts.

VoIP Calling

With a stable internet connection, VoIP call quality is excellent—often better than traditional phone lines. We support HD voice codecs (G.722) for crystal-clear audio. For best results, we recommend a connection with at least 100kbps upload/download per concurrent call.

Yes! We offer competitive international calling rates to over 200 countries. Rates vary by destination and are charged per minute. You can view our complete rate table in your dashboard or on our pricing page.

Yes, you can port your existing phone number to UniTotal. The process typically takes 7-14 business days for local numbers and 3-5 days for toll-free numbers. There's no interruption to your service during the porting process.

SMS & Messaging

Yes, most of our DID numbers are SMS-enabled. You can send and receive text messages through our web portal, API, or email-to-SMS feature. SMS capability is available for US and Canadian numbers.

MMS is supported on enabled DIDs. You can send and receive images, videos, and other media files. Note that MMS has different pricing than standard SMS—check our pricing page for current rates.

Standard accounts can send up to 1,000 messages per day per number. For high-volume messaging needs, contact our sales team about dedicated short codes or 10DLC registration for higher throughput.

DID Numbers

A DID (Direct Inward Dialing) number is a virtual phone number that routes calls to your VoIP account. DIDs allow you to have local numbers in different cities or countries without physical presence there, making it easy for customers to reach you.

We offer local numbers in thousands of US and Canadian cities, toll-free numbers (800, 888, 877, 866, 855), and international numbers in select countries. You can also request vanity numbers when available.

Number Porting

Local number ports typically take 7-14 business days. Toll-free numbers usually complete in 3-5 business days. The exact timing depends on your current carrier. We'll keep you updated throughout the process.

No, there should be no service interruption during porting. Keep your existing service active until the port completes. The transition typically happens seamlessly, with your number beginning to ring on UniTotal within seconds of completion.

Billing & Payments

We offer prepaid and postpaid options. Prepaid accounts maintain a balance that's deducted as you use services. Postpaid accounts receive monthly invoices based on usage. Monthly fees for DIDs and plans are charged at the beginning of each billing cycle.

We accept major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), debit cards, PayPal, and bank transfers (ACH) for US accounts. Enterprise customers can arrange custom payment terms.

Technical Questions

Your SIP credentials are available in your dashboard under Account > SIP Settings. Generally, you'll need: SIP Server (sip.unitotal.tel), your SIP username, SIP password, and port 5060 (or 5061 for TLS). Full configuration guides are available in our documentation.

Yes, we support TLS for signaling encryption and SRTP for media encryption. We recommend enabling encryption for all deployments, especially when using public internet connections.
